Folks met in September 2015 to plan the first ever Valley Roots event; a Green Drinks kind of gathering. We heard a lot of great ideas around the table. Some rough guidelines included:
A reminder that meeting once a month is equivalent to 12 hours a year. We should be realistic about our expectations and what can be accomplished during that time-frame.
Some folks do not like the word “green”. After the meeting, representatives decided to change the name to Valley Roots, Celebrating and Nurturing a Sustainable Community in the Mid-Willamette Valley.
Meetings should be roughly 20% presentation, and allow for ample time to network afterwards.
Meetings could be hosted by an individual/business/or organization each month. The host is responsible for picking a time and location as well as setting up the speaker.
Marion County Public Works – Environmental Services provides support for the hosts and helps promote the events.
